“Steady flow modeling of the Pheasant Branch watershed for the City of Middleton, Wisconsin gave unrealistically high flood elevations compared to stream flow records (1974-present) and observed flood elevations since 1948.

Instead an unsteady flow model has been used because of relatively wide, flat floodplain’s, flat channel slopes, levees, looped and reverse flows and significant floodplain storage.

When xpswmm became available it was adopted because of its superior graphical input, features and graphical output. It was found to perform well and overcome previous problems.
